Eco Home Design Trends:
A Green Home is a Healthy Home
A quiet revolution in building science has been going on for the last two decades and is poised to change the way our homes are built. The 2015 International Energy Conservation Code was adopted by Connecticut in 2018 to require new homes and remodeled homes to use less energy. This is a step in the right direction for our environment and for our pocketbooks. But the new “gold standards” are Passive Houses or Net Zero Energy Homes which use about a third of the energy of a current code compliant home.
The surprising extra benefit is that these homes have healthier indoor environments. Since we spend as much as 70% of our time indoors this is a significant value to consider when designing your project.
The class will include discussion and resource links.
In this 90 minute class, you will explore:
- How is “Passive House Design“ different than Passive Solar Design
- How a tight home with controlled ventilation can lead to better health
- The 5 essential elements for planning a successful Net Zero Energy Home
- The connection of Passive House Standard to design for Aging in Place
- How modest investments in energy efficient construction can lead to lifelong savings
- Where to get the technical resources you need
- What are the special challenges of a Deep Energy Retrofit
